Yikes, I Saw a Barracuda! is the debut book of the author, Tamara Anderson.
Many years ago while on a trip to Mexico, she was inspired to write this book. It was purposefully developed with a focus on a Caribbean American family as the main characters. However, this first book in a series has a twist as it shows a cross-cultural experience as the family visits Mexico in the book. The author’s purpose of the book is to provide an enjoyable reading and listening experience for children and families from all backgrounds. It can also provide an opportunity for extension activities to discuss the setting and non-fiction facts provided at the back of the book. The author’s desire is to also promote cultural understanding that improves communication, appreciation, respect, and unity of people from different cultures. Prior to publication, this book was reviewed by an editor with native Mexican heritage for cultural propriety and sensitivity.
